Moving forward with his solo career, Carlos
Timon has left much of the experimentation of Insecto behind,
yet retained his personal recognisable sound. The result is
"Swings of Fate", a wonderful record offering
pop, rock, bossa and jazz with transcendental melodies, and
blended orchestrations.
"Swings of Fate" was recorded between Madrid
and London. Helped on the recording by musicians and friends
such as the diamond voice of Belinda Baxter, the
saxophone of Marcos Monge, the flutes of J.
C. Lores, the drums of Sticky Bone Sticks,
the guitar of Javier Adan, the double bass of
Javier Díez-Ena, the voice of A. J. Park and the
percussion of Fran Padilla.
Lava´s debut has fused rhythms and verbal expressions
from several cultures and genres in provocative new ways, crafting
inimitable soundscapes whose impact can range from fragile pop
pleasure to sheer sonic assault. In "We lived
by the sea" and "Confusing
dreams", Carlos keeps things simple and melodically
to the point using only one guitar or just guitar and saxophone
playing together, whilst "Ferrinho" and "Ritmo
rápido" show that he can also develop more lines
when given room. "Slave Nation" combines
a fractured breakbeat with mad voices and furious guitar and
keyboard; "Something to keep Bel happy" smears
subtle, warm, very mellow and melodic saxophone solos under
Cuban percussion, double bass and guitar; "Masira"
is a happy, fun song with Carlos playing around with nonsense
lines and lyrics.
Enjoy it!. |
